The Maloney Family

History

I have traced the Maloney/Meloney/Maloni family back to Joseph Maloni b 1707 and his wife, who I presume lived at Waterperry, Oxfordshire who appear in the Waterperry St Clements Catholic Register. The link with the Maloneys was due to the marriage between Mabel Maloney of Holton and Joseph Funge of Waterperry in 1859. Their daughter Eliza Jane (Lizzie) Funge married Walter James Munt, my Great Grandfather in Waterperry in 1891.

A Thomas Maloney pleaded not guilty to riotous assembly during the Wheatley riots of 1870, when many of the villagers took action against the potential loss of their rights over the Common Land. ( I believe Thomas to be the son of Michael Meloney and Elizabeth Shorter born Wheatley 1831. 2 x Great Grandson of Joseph Maloni.)

The Funge/Fonge families and the Maloni/Maloney/Meloney are very interwoven through four marriages;

  1. 1859, Joseph Funge and Mabel Maloney.

  2. 1869, John Fonge and Ann Meloney, witnesses Moses Fonge and E Maloney.

  3. 1876 Moses Funge and Elizabeth Maloney, witnesses Thomas Maloney and Louisa Ring.

  4. 1891 Martha Maloney and David Fonge. witnesses Walter James Munt and Eliza Jane Munt (nee Funge).

my 3X great grandfather.

 Mabel Funge nee Maloney born 1837 Holton died 1930 Winchester, my 2 x Great Grandmother. Mabel is also my 2nd cousin four times removed. We both have links to Thomas Munt and Jane Robbins. Thomas Munt (1728-1771 Littleworth) and Jane Robbins born 1724 are both my 5 x Great Grandparents, and Mabel Maloneys Great Grandparents.
